Association:ZELLCHEMING

About us

HeadquarterThe Verein der Zellstoff- und Papier-Chemiker und -Ingenieure (ZELLCHEMING) [Association of Chemical Pulp and Paper Chemists and Engineers (ZELLCHEMING)] was founded in 1905 and is thus the oldest technical/scientific association of its industry worldwide.
The founders stipulated at the time of foundation, that the association should not have a nation in its name in order to keep it open for everybody that is involved with the production of chemical pulp and paper as well as its supplying industry. The association has kept this international character until today - more than 20 % of its members are foreigners.

In the German paper industry, the consolidation phase has not been completed yet. Therefore, the technical association ZELLCHEMING adapts to the ever changing conditions by targeting at the construction of an international network that goes beyond country frontiers and enables technical and technological performances at the highest level in this high-tech industry. In this respect, the most important executive body is the Main Committee with the technical committees affiliated to it that cover the entire chain of paper production. The association supports scientific, technological and technical works in the field of chemical pulp and paper production combining related fields and education through the members of these committees that come from the most different companies. If the demand for research exceeds the possibilities of the technical committees, they define the subjects and forward them to the competent universities or industry institutes.
The results of these researches are published in part in the international trade magazine
"ipw - Das Papier", in which ZELLCHEMING is responsible for editing the category Science and Technology.

Every year, the general meeting of the association takes place in the last week of June and is accompanied by an industry exhibition. This is the biggest annual event for the chemical pulp, paper and supplying industry in Central Europe.

The composition of the association’s board is adapted to the industrial conditions. Important personalities from different groups and medium-sized companies as well as heads of research institutes and educational institutions are members of the board and thus integrated in the conceptual design of the work of the association.
